Common pitfalls when learning to see

Spend time describing what you see before deciding what it means. Observe first; interpret second. This single habit will improve your dermoscopy more than memorising any number of patterns.

Beginners often fixate on colour — "Is it dark? Is it red?" — before understanding what the colour represents structurally. Colour is a cue, not the primary information.

Instead

Ask "What structure is producing this colour?" before "What does this colour mean?"
